Cape town order collected. One neon dead. Rest seem fine. Little concerned the the neons look like regular neons? Maybe just stress related? Will see once I've had them settled.

@Coldcat I had a moment of that thought too. Look carefully: Is the blue stripe full-length, like on a cardinal, and the red stripe shorter? If so, they're the right ones. One caution, don't neglect to quarantine these guys. I thought I'd take the risk, and lost several of my established fish as well as some of the green neons.

    Hows everyones neons doing? \

I lost 20 of the 30. They slowly were dropping when I got home till this morning... Don't know what more to do. They not eating either, so super thin.

I had a major scare lastnight when I watched one of the amano shrimps jump a healthy neon and attack it. So took the shrimp out and put into my tank, I just hope my tank is safe now. I never knew they would do that, Only assume cause was in close quarters and they might have been starving. The shrimp seem fine now.

I'm just really concerned about the last 10 neons, this has become an expensive lesson...

The shrimp was probably hungry and decided to take a chance. Seems there was a big die off of shrimp as well as I'm not getting anymore...

I have 10 left and they seem to be doing very well, eating, getting fat, and no more have died for a couple of days. I'm definitely going to be ordering from BLA's shipments again, especially since the Apistos are very healthy and in great condition. Besides, I need more green neons now! However, I'm going to be paranoid about quarantining and expect a certain number of losses. I'm sure with time/experience this will improve too. Huge kudos to @BLA Aquatics for doing this, PLEASE don't let a few teething issues put you off bringing in shipments in the future. I'll be taking part for sure.

I don't know, this just seems like too many losses and you guys are making it out to be common place. It should not be. We've done group imports before and have had minimal loss. The last one through Southflea, there were zero DOA on her side and after 10 day quarantine she shipped out with not a single fish loss that I'm aware of on our side either. So, somewhere along the supply line something must be wrong here.

Judging by the number of losses some LFS's have had in last weeks shipment (i.e. not from BLA)- it might be weather related?

How are everyones Apistos doing? Mine are good. Colouring up nicely but I cant get a pic of them. Every time I enter the room they hide. The male hides in his cave and the female behind the filter.

Looks like most losses are on the re shipped fish? Weather might also be a problem.

Sub standard stock from the breeders? The amano's I got are all doing well so far but I lost all the galaxies and neons from the previous shipment.

Had a number of losses as well from the galaxies I ordered...until I started feeding frozen Daphnia and Liquifry...

I used Liquifry No 2 (for livebearers...as it has more algae in it and the particles are bigger)

Remember the galaxies nor the green neons will readily take flake foods...and will have to gradually have to get accustomed to it...

Just to add my 2 cents as well.

My CPDs where 'accidentally' quarantined by @BLA Aquatics for a week. I received them yesterday. All 30 where alive on arrival and are still going strong. I'ts near impossible for me to count them now, but it does look like all of them are still alive and doing well.

The fact of the matter is, I paid about a third of the price for them I would have paid if I bought them at a local LFS. As such, I'm fine with SOME losses, say 5-10% as it would still be a lot cheaper than anything else (obviously I prefer zero). With that said, I think they should add a week quarantine by default, especially for the reshipped fish. I realise this will increase the cost of the fish a bit, but I do hope that it won't be to much!

So, BLA, though it has been a bit of a shaky start, I think it was expected. I hope you guys can keep learning and improving the process... I will definitely be doing business with you again and I trust each time will be a more pleasant experience!
