    Hi Discus Lovers!!

    I'm planning to make my first ever beefheart home made mix, where I am (zimbabwe) am not able to get a scientifically made European mixtures as per Prof. Dirk obtains, perhaps I could purchase some from somewhere? If you have, please get in touch as I would like to purchase (even discus ;) )
    Anyway, I plan to mix;

    800g-1KG Beef heart (de veined / fat removed, etc) so clean cubes of pure flesh
    200g of Breco Shrimp
    14 Caps of Spirulina Powder
    1 x Handful of blanched spinach
    3 x Tablespoons TetraPrima
    4 x Cloves Garlic
    1 x Centrum Multi Vitamin - is this ok to use?
    1 x Teaspoon Gelatin? - Do I really need this?

    I can mix above, grind beef 2 times, prawns 1 time, mix all together then set with Gelatine & freeze.

    When I feed the discus does it really dirty the water that much?

    Thanks for any comments/feedback you have, its appreciated!
    Cheers!

    Hello,

    The gelatine is there to bind it together so the food doesn't disintegrate and foul the tank. It is very important to add.

    I have seen many beef heart mixes and yours doesn't look radically different.

    you will need more gellatin, you prepare the gelatting separtely as per packet instructions and then mix it in with all the other ingredients at the end, then to the freezer. You can also add some balanced C for vitamin C boost to aid the immune system of the fish.

    Guys you'll be glad to know the discus are all loving my new beefheart recipe. With the spinach also ground up using the mixer the fish have large long daily bowl movements. Is this normal? I alternate some granules in the morning, lunch is beefheart and dinner is a sprinkle of dry or frozen blood words, next day would be flakes or live dahpnia. Is this a good way to feed discus both young and adult? Thanks
