    Hi plant pros

My Barclaya has grown beatifully and from what I can see (about 10 - 15cm in height and all leaves are dark red and has about 14 leaves on it), it has a bud that is still closed. From my research, I see that this is how Barclaya is propagated. My question is, can I just cut off the bud from the edge of the rishome its attached to? I can then devide up the seeds amongst everyone who would like some so that they can also add this beauty of an aquatic plant to their tanks. Also, if there is specific way to open the bud, let me know....wouldn't want to damage it

    Some help/advice would be appreciated.

    Dankie manne

    Cheers
    Dale

I've noticed this morning that 3 leaves has seperated from the plant. I wonder if this is normal. I'll do some more research on the net but if there are oakes on here that can chip-in their 2c, they are by all means welcome

If it is the red one, apparently you should consider yourself lucky as I read this on an online plant supplier's website :"ENDANGERED NOW AND RARELY AVAILABLE ANYMORE"
As far as propagation goes, all I have found was that both seeds and splitting of the rhizome is how this plant can be spread, and that is as far as they go, no in-depth explanation.
Keep trying, google and other international forums, maybe you will eventually find something worthwhile...

Yip, its the red one. Will take a picture of it and post it online for you all to see.

I'll definitely stay on the research because I'd like all of us to have this plant. Need to get some to WBS as well....I owe him for last time :)

I lost about 8 - 10 leaves off the plant...got home earlier and saw the leaves just floating on the water surface. The bud with the enclosed bud with seeds is also gone...not even floating on top. Should I just leave the plant for now? Help...don't want to lose this plant

Ok, here are some pic...took it about 15mins ago (BTW, my driftwood is still leeching, hence the brownish tanned water)

I am no expert but that sounds like something is having a go at the plant...is there any possibility that one of your fish could have had a go at it? And as the pod has gone "poof" is it not possible that the pod gave off some chemical that excited one of your fish? Just a speculation!

Dale, I also have one of those pods on my plant, but leaving it these to see what it does. I have no fish in the tank " 45lt plant only tank" but the original bulb I bought is producing plants like crazy.

I think the plant might have propagated itself next to the main bulb...will confirm either tomorrow or on the weekend.

Thanks for your input gents, greatly appreciated! :)

Ah...that might be it. Got some good news, I found the bud containing the seeds...I moved it to my 2foot plant-development tank. Just want to check a few things first as I am actually a bit tempted to open the bud and stick the seeds in my substrate :)

Dale, just wait for it to happen. The bud I got is still attached to the main plant and I saw this afternoon it was half open and some seeds coated in a white cotton like substance was hanging out of the bud.

I haven't touched it....just let it float in my other tank. Problem though is that it is only the bud....its not attached to the main plant anymore. Don't know if this is a good thing or not, but I'll leave it and be patient

    Thanks dude

Yip, this is the very plant you wanted when you where here last time. I manage to find the other bulb in my substrate (I had two of these plants but one 'died' off) and moved it into another tank...lets see what comes out of that as well

Well it is not completely dead...still has about 5 leaves on it. Looks like it might be going into its dormant phase. I don't want to take it out to replant it elsewhere...I'll rather wait and see what happens.
