It seems I have white spot...... =-( so I will have to dose for that, clean my gravel and do another water change this weekend. Did one on Sunday night.

I have another question........I rescued a n Golden apple snail out of my brother in laws tank......he was just lying on his shell in their tank and not really moving. When I put him in mine on the weekend he was doing well and still is. On the right hand side of his shell it is cracked and look as if his shell is disintegrating ( I got him like this) what can I do to make him better? The top of his shell is shedding layers so his shell is becoming white here and there.

The other Golden apple snails is still in their tank and I want to put him in with the rescued one aswell, my brother in law and his girlfriend doesnt do water changes often so it really breaks my heart so maybe I will be moving the 2nd one over to my tank tonight.

    What do you guys think?

Up your temp for the white spot, add extra airation, feed the apple snail algae wafers, cucumber and here are some tips for the shell

Shell Health: Apple snails require calcium supplements to maintain strong healthy shells. pH levels can erode the shell, (below 7.0 and above 8.0). Calcium can be provided by tablet (calcium carbonate), liquid calcium, through calcium rich foods, or things like weekend feeders and cuttlebone.

Be carefull of apples certain species loves eating plants they are commonly called mystery snails but not all of them are mystery snails. They will chow your plants. You could try feeding romain lettuce and spinach they seem to like that. They can not change gender and lay their eggs out of water before long one of two things will happen you will have an infestation or a floor full of snails if your tank is open topped.

We've all went through dips in our "aquarium careers" @Liandre ... so we know what you going through...

My advise...don't over think things and make decisions in the blink of an eye. Take it one step at a time...

Sort out your white spot...as fish health comes first in my eyes. Marlons has a cheap and effective Ich treatment (saw prof @Dirk B mentioned it in another thread somewhere) that doesn't stain your silicone, also raising the temp helps a lot.

The go after your plants...are you dosing any comprehensive or EI ferts? If so...stick with the hardy plants at first till you are happy that you got the hang of it. Like @JP01 mentioned...Anubias is almost impossible to kill, also look at things like Java Fern, Java moss, Crypts, Hornwort...easy to keep

This reminds me of the time I had a vicious outbreak of cyano. It was spreading relentlessly and everything was dying. Took the extreme decision of doing dosing heavy excel and did a blackout. BAD IDEA. It killed the cyano but pushed all my plants over the edge and they all vrekked. Must say that I felt like going plastic there and then but I rescaped the entire tank, worked out the problem and now I have a happy tank.

BBA went light grey. I added 4 tablespoons of 9% to my 135l and left it for about 20-30 min then wc then double dosed excel as per bottle. Not as effective as I had hoped but will give it another go
