I have a few of these male guppies for sale at R 25 each. They look stunning in a planted tank with the black on green contrast.

I also have trios available ie 1 male and 2 females, for anyone who wants to set up a breeding programme with good stock. Trios are available @R 150/trio.

Guppies ship fine by overnight post bagged as single fish (1:5 water to air). But the Post man must never know...

pHish_man, you have problems with the males maturing early and the females late? The black strains I saw in Italy many moons ago had that problem. Unless you had a constant supply of males you ended up with old spent males by the time the females were ready to carry.

    Hi guys

Thanks for all the kind words. I obtained 12 very young fishes from Len Weideman in about October/November 2012 and up till now reproduced a fair number of offspring.

Some of my observations about these fishes is they seem to have a short lifespan of about a year ( as opposed to a good 2 years or more with a 'normal' guppy ). I was reading today in Philip Shaddock's ' the theory and practice of guppy breeding ' that melanin ( which gives the colour cell the black pigment ) is associated with health problems. This was quite interesting as i often have a male fish vrek all of a sudden. Fortunately I have now bred literally hundreds of these guppies so i should be fine in terms of maintaning this awesome colour strain. What I would be interested in doing is now obtaining some females from another breeder to outcross my strain ( if that is the correct term - perhaps Tyrone can comment here ).

Then I have also created a new strain of females that are Half-black tuxedo x Full black and have now got all the females of that cross in with original full black males. Theses females are now due to start dropping and it will be interesting to see what comes of this.

But i digress, this is not a fish forum ( :p ) so if anyone local wants some of these beauts, give a shout. Or I could look at shipping.

Andrew I am interested to read your comments on the males who just suddenly die. I got 4 stunning males from a LPS last week, 2 half navy / black males, one bright turquoise and a lilac and electric blue. I got 2 darkish females at the same time. I have thex2 females left and one dark male who seems to be 'losing the dark colour'. It seems he may have been 'injected'?
He is also a supreme bully and has killed 3 other males, possibly my other dark male and the lilac male, and 2 White Clouds. He now resides in solitary splendour. I have experienced no problems with the females who are about (thumbs tightly held) to drop fry.
