All of those shrimp definitely do not look like amano shrimp, but glass/clear cherry shrimp And the eggs on the females are way to big.....I think there is a big snake in the grass here if those are sold as amano shrimp in the shops from the new import
I checked out the shrimp today at PW with Bernard, he was also surprised and questioning what he had received..? According to him there were also some young new borns in the bag when they arrived so they are clearly not Amanos, although they don't look quite like ghost shrimp either. I gather some bigger clear coloured shrimp were also received by the importer, so perhaps you'll still be in luck. @Hendre
Did N1 get theirs through Ruan? The pics Ruan sent me from his tanks look much more like amanos to me. I'll see tonight, if they're not I get replacements at some point
Yes the name Ruan or Rian was mentioned, in his defence he probably thought they were amanos and was swindled by the foreign exporter. Having said this I'm not sure why they were then sent on to PetWorld and other shops, but again he probably genuinely thought they were amanos, as they do look similar..
Ruan told me he didn't import them but someone else did. So he is not responsible for the permit. He sounds like an honest person and I'm confident he will dig into it to find out more. Now amanos or not amanos it's a complete different story. If they are not and imported under a legal amano permit, it means they are illegal because declared under a false specie. If they are with a real legal permit, it should be legit. If they are with a wrong permit, they become illegal. The sellers are all responsible for what they are selling, it will eventually goes all the way up to the importer.
of course not something smells decidedly odd on several fronts, not sure I believe anything anymore... ghost permits for ghost importers for ghost shrimp, lol
So can i inject black dye into a ghost shrimp and call it a king kong. or red dye and call it a bloody Mary lol.
Guys, this is going too far now. Let's see what is coming to Cape Town tonigh, @Hendre will update us. Also looking forward to get an update from Ruan who started this thread.
As mentioned earlier in the thread, the fact they are berried at that small size means they are not Caridina multidentata or the Amano strain I'm familiar with, having kept them for five to six years. The yellow looking eggs as seen in you first pic don't resemble the smaller Amano eggs, mine seem to start off being a darker colour and then go a lighter grey. I note from google pics they can also be yellow, but have not seen this unless it's immediately after they are produced and then they go darker.. ?
