So I've decided to break down the above scape which has been running for about a year and a half now. Reasons:
    - Substrate has become muddy/mushy and these particles end up settling on the plants/hardscape after the slightest disturbance.
    - Maintaining the carpet has become cumbersome as I just don't have the time anymore to keep it looking as is with the regular trimming and I've also become lazy to clean up all the tiny cuttings.

    Ideas for the new scape:
    - No carpet (maybe I'll plant a much smaller area instead of losing all of the carpet).
    - Concentrate more on hardscape and plants that attach to the hardscape.
    - Use of cosmetic sand.

How long have you been using the above as ADA aqua soil only starts showing signs of becoming muddy after about two years but can last longer providing you don't rescape or move things around. langa soil typically only lasts for 18 month or so before loosing its consistency but also subject to rescaping and moving things like rocks around. that is why you do your rock work before adding the soil so that the rocks don't stand on the substrate.

Made by ADA @Shl. I have the soil for 2 years now. Quite disappointing, good substrate though.

I am planning to do a rescape on my 45cm tank as well sometime soon , i found the carpet which looks great after a while gets a bit much to maintain and i've been contemplating a new layout with cosmetic sand as well to simplify the look and do more to highlight the different buce varieties.
