Last Saturday a few of us went up to Carletonville to see Williams new setup. He has started an awesome shop called 'DISCUS WORLD' where he will be breeding Discus aswell as other fish (Apistos, Plecos, rainbows, Tetras etc). The shop can be found in Stasie street in Carletonville, about an hours drive outside JHB. William has put in alot of effort and although the shop is not open for business just yet you can see that things are on the right track. Within the next couple of months the shop will be open to the public, if you enjoy Discus and Plecos then you should definitely take a drive out there, well worth the effort. Thanks to William and his wife for the nice day, food and drinks were great :) For enquiries, please call William for further details on 082 966 6514.

Here's how the shop looks so far, all tanks and plumbing in place.

Here are some pics of the various fish we saw. The Discus were stunning.

It was a very cool afternoon. Nice to meet all the guys from the Jacaranda Fish Club, they're quite a knowledgeable friendly bunch.

Lovely looking selection. Any indication as to prices? I enjoyed viewing this thread, especially the photos as to what is in stock. The fish all look relaxed ( not stressed ) as seen in most of the LFS in Cape Town. Only George in Parklands has had relaxed discus, but not many at a time.

A lot of the shop is still under construction, so I don't think the filtration system is completely set up yet. I'm sure we'll head out that way again when everything is finished to get you guys an update. It promises to be awesome.

As far as I could tell there is no filtration unit set up yet, all the tanks have plumbing so I think he relies heavily on water changes.

I too have a curious need to look "under the hood". :D Behind-the-scenes aquarium tours are fun++++

I also find I get irritated in films and on TV where I see a tank in the background of a shot and they don't zoom in on it :p

    Is Discus World still going?

The SO seems quite keen on taking a drive out to Carletonville to check out their setup....

Thanks Cameron, that would be fantastic. O0

Dunno if anyone else up in Gauteng would be interested in going to have a look see? Not just the Discus, but would also like to see behind the scenes like filtration etc

    Hi Neil

I heard that William has opened up Discus World so he now sells direct to the public in Carletonville.

Cameron Posted a cell number in the first post of the thread, you can also try: 071 308 7399

    Hope this helps,
    Ryan
