Hi Jitan, you have a new tank and filter that has not cycled yet and Discus are very sensitive to changes in water quality, if it was me I would hang on getting the fish and start seeding the filter with Microbelift special blend in the meantime.

It will be sad if you loose all the fish that is not cheap due to a ammonium or nitrite spike not to mention the poor fish.

Hi Jitan... Discus into an uncycled aquarium is asking for trouble mate... Have you tested your water parameters? Where is your pH and hardness at? If you dont have test kits - get them NOW...and be prepared to do big waterchanges with pre heated and treated water while your discuss aclimatize and your filter becomes mature... This is realy not the way to aquire Discus for a tank - but since you have decided to do it this way...be prepared for a LOT of work over the next month to 6 weeks...
Are these Juveniles or adults you getting? You do realise that juvies need to be fed at least 8 - 10 times per day...another problem in a planted tank as this leads to a lot of waste...

Also you mention that your water temp is sitting at 27 - push that up to at least 29... Also just a question regarding your lighting... Is that just a blue tube over the tank? You realise that plants will not grow under lighting like that....

    Hi Guys

first off thanks for the concern but this isnt my 1st Discus aquarium.

the water filter and part of the substrate has come from the old discus tank. (see the pics of the small tank on the right)

Water is fine, and i have pushed up the temp to 29 degrees. The filter ran for a while in the old tank prior to adding it in this one.

i have a quad t5 lamp unit with 2 blue and 2 daylight lights.

The fish i got are big, wont say fully grown but they are about palm size.

i have 2 smaller fish which i threw in last week and they seemed to be the same as they were in the old tank.

Hi guys. i recently moved my tank from the office to my house and have had a sudden burst of brown hair like algea thats all over the tank. wood, rocks plants gravel, not even the heater is safe :BangHead:!!! all thla

does any one know why or what i can do to stop it?

I was thinking of just throwing out all the plants and starting over!

I cut down the lighting to 4 hours a day and stopped using CO2 and liquid ferts but still the dreaded weed grows!!!

    HELP PLEASE!!! :icon_pale:

    Hi Jitan

I'm no expert with Algea (I'm very good with growing it though :evil6: )

But I would recommend that you don't stop the CO2.... And I would run at least two 4 hour sessions about 2 hour appart. With firts I can't realy help.

Hey Jitan, sorry I don't know anything about getting rid of algae but if you're still looking for interesting tetras may I suggest Lemon tetras? I recently saw a thread where a lot of discus people were talking about how great they are, apparently they look like nothing much in the shop but once they're acclimatised to your tank they are a really nice bright yellow with red eyes, quite big, and go very well with discus.
