    Hi, folks,

Thought I show you all the latest aquarium moss. APSA is the first to see images of the moss as I haven't post it to killies.com yet. You're the first ;)

Bioplast fish shop in Singapore grows it in one of their tanks. They said they got the moss from a trader in Japan but we're not sure if Japan is the country of origin. My guess is the moss is a species of Vesicularia but as the professor has not examined it yet, we're not sure of its identity. The moss has fronds that are triangular in shape but they are much smaller than the other Vesicularia's we know. It also has a much lighter shade of green. The moss does not even have a common name because it's not available to the market yet. Bioplast won't be selling the moss until they have lots of it.

So, in the meantime, I can only show you the pictures. But I have problems showing images in this forum so I will send them to Cameron. Asking Cameron to upload the images for me isn't a good solution to my problem but for the time being, I guess that's the only method.

    Hi Loh

Maybe you can just post the URL to the images on Killies.com here. That way everyone can see it and one of the mods will do the upload when they get a chance.

I'm very keen to see this new species of moss!

I tried that, Andre but for reasons I don't understand, the links won't work. A message that says something about "not given permission to view page" pops up when I tried it several times. Let's be patient and wait for Cameron to upload the pics.

    Hi Loh

I'm very keen to see the new moss too. Unfortunately many servers do not permit direct linking because it increases network traffic without actually giving the site hosted on the server more visitors. You can send the pics to me too, and I will host them for you and post them.

It almost looks like it has a bit of Fissidens in it.

    What's a shag carpet, Cameron?

I don't know if Shag Moss would make a good name because over here in Singapore, Shag would also mean "to copulate". When I suggested using the name "Erect Moss" a couple of years back, some of my fellow Singaporeans thought the name was rather suggestive. A few folks then tried to come up with a new name. They preferred "Upright Moss" but somehow or other, the "Erect" name became far more popular.

A while back, there was a movie called, "The spy who shagged me". Guess what? Our government disapprove of the name and the movie wasn't allowed to be screened unless the owners come up with a new name. So they changed the title of the movie to "The spy who shioked me". Shoik is a Malay word, meaning "to feel good". We're prudes.

I'm trying to get Bioplast to find out the common name. They told me they will be getting in touch with the trader in Japan who gave them the moss. I'll let you all know when I hear from Bioplast.

If you guys like to know, Bioplast fish shop has decided to name the moss "Anchor Moss". If you take a close look at the tips of the fronds in the close-up pic, the branches are almost at right angles to the main stem and it looks somewhat like a ship's anchor.
