That'll be a cool setup. Don't you like coral?

It seems to me that setting up and maintaining a truly great planted tank can be as difficult and even more time consuming than the reef thing. You see many great reef tanks including a lot in SA, but the truly great planted tanks seem scarce in comparison.

    Just my 2c worth

I was also thinking that Neels. SARK actually has a tank of the month section with some really nice looking setups, but there just aren't enough good planted setups for something like that. Enter APSA...

I fail to see your argument. Are your'll praising marine tanks or hoping a planted tank can look like a marine tank

Neels you're quite right. The standard of planted tanks is just not high enough yet. I think this has alot to do with bad information from pet shops. We just don't have the know how. We hope to change all that through this website. As with marine tanks you can go as technical or as natural as you want with a planted tank. I have some decent looking planted tanks that get hardly any attention from me (they just grow wild). But on my CO2 setup I need to trim the plants weekly and add ferts almost every day. It can be high maintenance but a well scaped and groomed planted tank is very stunning and can be quite rewarding.

The site is still new and I have'nt written any articles just yet but I will be setting up some guidelines very soon for folks to follow. You will realise that growing plants is not as technical as you imagine, it's actually really quite easy once you get into it. As with all things aquatic, stability is the key to success.

Sorry John, it may have looked like I was bashing someone, I really did not mean to do so.

I'm only saying that the planted tank hobby is not quite at the calibre as the marine hobby. Seems to be a bit easier to get hold of corals than it is to get hold of plants that are considered "common" by overseas aquarists.

No probs ryan. But like in marine it depends alot on demand. In the marine world there's also so much we want in SA that is only available overseas.

Some people suggest group buys from overseas companies to save on shipping costs, perhaps your'll can do the same.

I see we all suffer from the dreaded 'the plants are greener on the other side' syndrome :).

All I can say is after that weekend at Oom Bert's "Local is lekker" :)
Although it would be nice to get hold of some of the more demanding plants not available here :( As John says I think group buys are a necessity as it also brings down the costs of shipping.

Actually, that's exactly what most of us here are doing. As Cameron mentioned, the idea of this site is to get the word out, inform those uninformed and hopefully provide a wider variety of plants & equipment to the hobbyist.

EDIT: - Cameron has been a great help in sourcing some rare mosses and plants not currently available in SA and I'd just like to use this opportunity to publicly thank him for all he has done for the FW community in SA.

Thanks Cameron, you truly are the (what was it again?)
    fishy father X-mas? :D
