Hi Guys sorry new to aquascape and got a question about CO2. I got an internal filter in my aquarium and it's got an air syphon attachment on the outlet of the filter that allows you to attach a tube with small valve to control air intake. It basically defuse oxygen into the tank. My question: Can I use this to defuse my CO2 into my tank by connecting to that and if so can I connect my air pump to it as well and defuse oxygen and CO2 at the same time through this one outlet on my filter ? There is no back pressure and when testing it works well . Lots of small bubbles suspended in my water but can you mix the oxygen and CO2 like this or even defuse CO2 like this. Thanks.
Hi There, You unfortunately cannot diffuse the CO2 as described above. In My experience, the best method to dissolve CO2 would be by means of a CO2 reactor (quite easy to DIY). You actually do not want to see too many CO2 bubbles in your water column as this means that the CO2 has not been dissolved and effectively being wasted. An alternative would be to inject the CO2 at the bottom of your internal filter. This way, the bubbles will travel through the filter media and will eventually be chopped up by the impeller. Still not the best way but better than what you initially described. Good Luck
Thanks much appreciated. Ran the setup today and found I had to increase my CO2 to achieve the required dosage, sadly it doesn't work as well as a thought. I use too use a small glass defuser and was at the bottom at my substrate and it took only a few seconds for the small bubbles to reach the top and pop. With the current system the small bubbles take far longer than with the glass defuser to reach the top. Longer suspended in the water column. Will go have a look at running it in through my filter impeller DIY. Question: so small bubbles in the water isn't ideal you want it mixed into the water even more. Thanks for the advice. Great.
