OK I hope this topic is suposed to come here.
I'm going to buy me 3 ft tank. I want to keep a betta splender in their and perhaps two dwarf gouramis. I will be using a fluval 105 filter. What i want to know is can those fish live togther and whatr else can I keep with them? Also what light specs would be best(how many w/L)?
P.S: Does anyone know where I can get a Royale whiptale in CT?

I dont think the dwarf gouramies and the betta will go together. Both are pretty agressive fish and they will mistake each other for competition.

You can try pearl or honey gouramis with a betta...they co-exist quite fine together

Toshi, I have some nice Pearl Gourami's that bred. They are the most
    placid fish you could find!
Pm me , if you want some!

I was looking through a fish book and saw rainbow fish. Will they go with the gourami's and betta? And someone please let me know if you can find Royal whiptails! they look lovely!

    Hey Toshi,
I'v never kept Bettas before but I do know Rainbows especially the dwarf neon rainbows I currently have are very hyper active, so wouldn't this bother the more placid Bettas?
Oh and why dont you try a banjo catfish rather, they should be a lot easier to source out in Capetown and look similar"ish"...

Ya I also think the rainbow's will destroy the plants. I'll see about the catfish, it's always been my dream to keep one of those whiptail's!

    Hey Toshi,

The royal whiptails, are they Farlowella sp.? Saw some up here in Gauteng for only R25 each... But it was only the sticker left on the tank, otherwise I would have bought some! Don't know if the rainbows eat plants all that much, my one colleague at the LFS where I work part time had a beautiful planted tank with only rainbows in (all the different species). It looked awesome! But this was a couple of years ago...

No that's not the species i'm looking for. the one i want is Sturisoma Panamense. He looks alot like S. Aureum. And GDJ's tank looks really nice. BUt the thing is there is no one who has really nice plants.Or atleast no one I know of.

Things like Crinum thaianum, Echinodorus palaefolius var. latifolius, any type Vallisneria, and then some sort of short growing plant(one that's a bit bushy).

Toshi, I have quite a bit of Vallisneria spiralis to spare. If you can't find any in CT, I can send you some. Be warned though, it will take over your tank if it likes the conditions (it does prefer harder water).

Just to set things straight, it's not the "corkscrew" variety, that one is Vallisneria americana.

    Kind regards,
    Ryan

Toshi: I just replanted with a load of Crinum.

We imported some in January and the stock just sat; so I took them for my new scape. (I thought the plant was not all that popular.)

    Nope.
Thats the beauty of running a perfectly balanced setup. It's almost a Zen thing.
Now the question is can you hear the sound of one hand clapping when you look at the tank ;-)
