Hey guys My inline heater died the other night, started making a wierd clicking noise until it eventually tripped the power. Just wanted to find out if its worthwhile trying to repair the circuit board - if anyone here has any experience. Or just getting a new one from overseas, or if anyone has one for sale? Any advice would be much appreciated.
So I'm guessing no one is going to respond. Was keen to get another one but after taking it apart I'm not so sure. It's pretty cheaply made like those Chinese toys I used to have when I was a kid. Looks like the 2 wires going to the heating tube shorted out, capacitor is bloated and probably the little relay that was making the clicking noise is gone. Will try to repair but that's a big if. Crazy how 240v runs through that circuit. Will get a sicce or eheim submersible if I can find one. If anyone has one in decent condition for sale that would be most appreciated. It's just a 60litre tank so something small would be lovely
even for the price you pay for them, i would not repair it.. i dont want to take the chance with electricity and water. worse than the relay breaking in the off state, is it staying on and cooking all your fish...
I did a review of the Hydor ETH back in 2013, where I too voiced my concern on built quality. http://www.apsa.co.za/xenforo/threads/review-hydor-eth200-inline-heater.8594/ There are other brands, such as Jebo and ISTA that also have similar inline heaters, but I have not really looked into those much and have since just replaced the Hydor with a SICCI in-tank heater.
Thanks guys. I had a sicce lying in the storeroom. Will just use that for now. You're right. It's too risky repairing the hydor. And not too keen on the Chinese brands because I'm sure they're built none the better.
In stock? I'm not a reseller - I just tend to buy things I don't really need. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The normal Hydor 100w was bought from Yuppie Pets back in the day. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
