Hey all, So a while a go i did a tank for my office, 30x 25x25 starfire tank. The offlice loves it and has been going problem free for almost a year. I have now been tasked with the project of "upgrading" the tank as the bug has bit everyone. So ..... 90 x 31 x 35 (roughly 98L ) Eheim Pro 3e 450 ( was for a larger tank project, will need to figure out how to reduce flow) LED Light, not sure on make, but 6500k will use CO2 Will use ADA ferts Scape to have spiderwood and "local" rocks I want the scape to rise on the back right, and lover to the front left, with a focus on the wood mass, and a carpet as the tank stretches out. ug/HC for carpet, and crypts, some rotala and s. repens for the mass area. i will update as we go along. i am waiting for amazonia to be delivered, and awaiting a price on a CO2 system. i have one concern though at this stage. after i purchased the tank, i realised that the silicon was not done great at all on the top left back corner and the right front side of the tank. im concernd when i fill the tank, it will break. Can i repair myself by pushing extra silicon into the areas? what would be the easiest way around it. i can fit my finger nail in the gap and if i full on the glass, the gaps get larger. Pics below : right front side : Back left side :
Either cut that glass pane out and redo or take the tank back. I wouldn't just push silicone into gaps.
I'm going to redo the silicon, I think it's the safest way with such a large volume of water in an office with electronics. Il update once I have compleated it Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Hey guys, I need some help, I am going to be swapping over my small tank to this big one and I would like to transfer some plants if possible. The issue is the small tank is rife with BBA,BGA and hair algae. The small tank does not have CO2. What will the effect of transferring plants into the new tank with this much algae? Is it advised not to? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I use a mix of 1 part of jik and 20 part of water. Hardy plants like java Fern and Anubias will take a 8-10 min dip after which I rinse them in clean water and let them float in a bucket of water for a day or two. If you are worried about the time in the jik/water solution, you can shorten it perhaps to 5-6 mins whole checkling your plats ... Good luck
I usually only go for a few seconds now. I initially threw the plants in a jik solution to soak as I rescaped my tank...but they all melted to $hit...(granted, they were in the bucket for prolly 25-30 mins...LOL)
So... filler er up today Final layout Excuse the tool and big rocks, I needed to hold down the wood. My only concern is the tank is bowing quite a lot... is this normal? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Bowing quite a lot is how much? I assume you bought a standard 3ft tank, glass thickness will be 5mm and the glass will bow. I don't like it and therefore I add bracing to the top on all of my standard tanks (and usually also at the bottom)
I don't know know to measure how much... but I may do that. It is a standard 3ft Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
