Hello Everyone My name is Jonathan Jacobs and I am a relatively new proper fish keeping. I am from Pietermaritzburg and I am software developer and deployment manager(I just setup the basic stuff). I have had fish for several years but unfortunately during that time it was more of a lounge feature than a hobby so fish welfare was not the greatest concern. A couple months ago, I was watching random Youtube vids late at night and came across some Auqascaping vids; that was the moment it all started. I started reading up on this part of fish-keeping and it lead me to doing more and more research not only on plants but in general fish and their traits and compatibility(or lack there of). Fish-keeping is truly a fascinating hobby. So after all this I redid our lounge 3ft'er, new features, plastic plants, the full deal(fake stuff wise) and enjoyed every bit of it. After a week or two I decided that it was not enough, not natural enough, almost gimmicky and so I began my search for a more natural looking tank. I hunted and hunted for nice plants here and there was just nothing really noteworthy, hell it took me a couple days just to find some decent planting gravel(and then i took the last bit they had). So that made to start scouring the web for South African sites with information on all these things and viola, APSA. All in all, great forum, already found lots of valuable information on where to buy, friendly users, etc and here's to finding many many more! Sorry for longish post. Cheers
Thanks guys, one of the most important things I have gotten from the forums so far is shihr's website link! Looking at that site compared to what we get in the petshops here, it's like I'm a kid in a candy store.
