Zebra's at sunset

haaa, I know every grass blade where that pic is taken lol.. having spend the last six months there at Droevlei, but mainly in a couple of hides I put up on the edge of the dam, you might have seen them if you pass by regularly. I used to park under those trees, my tracks are still there. Actually saw that foal the day it was born and was learning to stand, actually two of them as can be seen in the pic, born a week apart. Will be out there agin shortly and can drop your books ...

Mister T So that's where you're frolicking with geese We've been there a few times to photograph the zebra's and just enjoy the scenery although we haven't been there recently. Will ask Gareth if we may take a drive out there some time soon, see if we can spot your hides.

one morning I found a freshly dead zebra next to the hide.. from a mega male fight, other had lost half it's tail !

Must have been a sad sight to see... that's nature though. Do zebra's fight for leadership of the heard or for a female's "affections"?

Males contest for females and the control of the heard. Lord knows how they can kill each other, presumably either from exhaustion or a serious skop to the head ?

Suddenly saw your great pic again on the home page. Have you seen how low the water is almost nothing there this summer, now I know why they call the farm Drooivlei ? Also low numbers of gypos compared to last summer, but tons of spurwing interestingly enough..
