Hi everyone, I am planning on building a dual tank stand that will have 2 x 3ft tanks on it - one above the other. I would like to build the length 1.2 m but want a brace in the middle. Q1: I am planning on using 38 mm mild steel square tubing. Is this overkill and could I get away with 25 mm mild steel square tubing? Question is am I prepared to risk 2 x 3 ft tanks on saving R500 on the build. The stand is going to take about 200 -300 kg. Q2: I have never learnt how to weld so I want to use connect-it blocks and pop rivets. Opinions please? Thanks for any and all feedback.

Hi Hendre, Yes 2 tanks that are 90 x 30 x 30. A wooden rack is an option that I thought about. Haven't ruled it out completely yet.
Wooden is nice. Lots of decor options to match the environment. You could even make some cupboards for storage at the bottom...
On the 38 mm its 2600 kg. Cant find info on the 25 mm and 19 mm blocks although I am 90 % sure I am going with the 38 mm so I haven't really put much effort into finding it. You need to know the tensile breaking strength. It's unclear if 2600kg refers to the breaking weight under a hydraulic press as the forces are usually measured in psi or Kilogram-force/m^2 or Pascals. Hope this works out. It should be okay. Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk
Got 12 m of 38 mm square tubing earlier. Had it cut to 4 x 3 m pieces 2 of the connectors I got today - a 4 way and a 3 way. 38 mm
Not in a rush to build this stand. Will build it so long but probably only looking at having the first tank on it in August or September.
I have been messing around with breeding celestial pearl danios for a while now. My stock levels are somewhere between 50 and 100 fish after starting with 8 a year or so ago. I really enjoy breeding the fish - there is just something really rewarding about the whole process. So this tank is going to be a grow tank for the fry. The plan is to move my breeding tanks to the bottom part of the stand, then to get a 3 ft tank for the top and hopefully start turning it into a scaped tank over time by trading/selling the celestials on gumtree or to the LFS and then using the money to buy soil, lights, rocks, plants etc. Plan is to eventually have a tank with dragon rock surrounded by a carpet plant - Im leaning toward dwarf hairgrass at the moment.
They are easy to breed. Most difficult part is raising fry IMO which isn't actually difficult at all if you have the correct foods for the first 2 or 3 weeks. Same as any other small egg scattering fish. They just aren't seen that often in the LFS (at least not in PE) and when they are they are sickly and really expensive - the reasons why I chose them to breed with. I have always preferred the smaller varieties of fish as I can have a lot of them in a relatively small tank.
