Long time Hope everyone is keeping well, and strong. Have been very busy being unemployed and starting a business and renovating and building and and and... The tank lives on even though I have considered selling it. It will be moved in 2 months time (not looking forward) and will replace the substrate and maybe even rescape it. I've lost a lot of interest to be honest. So it's time for some change.
I also found two freshwater stingray at my local LFS (Pet World & Aquatics) in PMB a while back - they're still there. Oh and they had several terrapins in one tank - to be honest, I think that tank is way too small for 5 or 6 of them crammed in one tank and only one small perching space for them to get out of the water.
Are terrapins not illegal anymore? I'm getting infuriated by the lack of polypterus around me, the only ones I have seen are very expensive albinos Can't wait for the suppliers to get some more normal ones, none of my 4 local shops have any... As well as bush fish and knife fish. Can't wait to get more knives. And you can't have an African tank without bichirs
Think you may be the first person ever to want to not be in Cape Town and rather in PE in terms of aquarium live stock. Usually us PE guys are the ones who are a bit blue seeing all the fish deals happening elsewhere.
There was no name on the glass so not sure if its terrapins or freshwater turtles. They are mean, I put my finger on the glass and several tried to go for it. Never did that again. Nrxt time I go, I'll take a photo. Sent from my D5503 using Tapatalk
Have you spoken to Nick Hart form Hartlands Aquatics? Otherwise, Aqua Empire in JHB currently have these available: They may be able to ship to you. POLYPTERUS LAPRADEI JUMBO POLYPTERUS ENDICHERI 50mm TANK BRED POLYPTERUS SENEGALUS ALBINO 50mm TANK BRED POLYPTERUS SENEGALUS 50mm TANK BRED
I'll look into that name tomorrow, those species are a little big or don't appeal to me so much. And when they are that small it's a little risky
ok that makes sense. My last sighting of a wild terrapin when I was a very young teenager on a farm, think I should have been either 12 or 13 - almost snapped at my brother''s toes and we had a naturally occuring river running down with a few pond inlets (it was a very small one) that dropped down a waterfall into a small natural pond (round about 100 - 200m long). I've not seen any in the wild since then except rescuing an huge one that I thought looked like a landmine and my mom had just missed it by a few cm's. It was trying to cross the road. I always have rescued animals - made sure they were ok before releasing them. I had in temporarily in our bath then, I think I was around 15 and it seemed to be fine so we took it to our neighbour who had a natural occuring pond in his backyard and we released it there.
I got woken up at 2:30 this morning by a clunking HOB, not a small HOB a freaking AC110. In my sleepless state I had to drain my filter, take the pump off and clean the impeller that was gunked up a bit, put it all back together and got it running then returned to bed. I'm so glad I don't have a test today
