Hi all. So 2 weeks today. Been a bit out with flu this week. Tank is now fully planted. Going to leave the plants alone now for two weeks. Maybe some minor trimming. Still need to water change and do some cleaning. I have added the inhabitants. 10 Black Neons 3 Ottocinclus 1 Rainbow Shark This will remain as the population now until the tank is mature. Plants: Hydrocotlye Tripartita Rotala Green Micranthemum Umbrosum Cabomba Carolina Ludwigia Brevipes Java Fern Ludwigia Rubin Hemianthus callitrichoides Dwarf hairgrass Alternanthera Reineckii Rosaefolia Ludwigia Glandulosa Mermaid Weed A little Bacopa Caroliniana 7 hours of lighting per day. Running 20 x 24 Watt HO Daylights. Have the capability to run another two if needed. Dosing flourish and excel at recommended amounts. Been an amazing journey so far. Everyone looks happy. Cheers. All good in the hood Ottos working tirelessly. Growth is good. Getting some good growth and colour from the Brevipes. Dwarf baby tears and hairgrass is showing growth. Struggled with the micranthemum umbrosum. Lost a lot of them, but the few left are looking healthy. The Tripartita grows at a phenomenonal rate. Literally trim every day. Populas looking very content. Water clarity is superb. Tested the water for the first time as well. All looks fine. A little bit of NO3, but nothing major. Something i forgot to mention was I bought a water skimmer from an LFS a while back. This little thing is amazing. It's compact, quiet, works like a bomb and only cost R130.00. It also has aeration at a twist of a knob. Great product. That's all for now. Cheers. M. Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk

Hi all. Getting some nice coloration on the new growth. Upped the lighting on the weekend. Added another 24W T5. Within a few days noticed some red algae build up on the Cabomba as well as green algea on the tank walls. Had a little freak out. Checked my timer. Photo period was running at 12 hours! Have cut that in half for now. Tank looks OK. Monitoring anymore Algea growth. Still dosing Excel once a day and Flourish twice a week. Have ordered some Scape Complete to start dosing additional nutrients. 50% water changes once a week. New inhabitants. Very at peace. Had a stowaway guppy when I got the shrimps. Decided to not let him become food. Took me an hour to rescue him. Looking happy in his "custom" Fry tank. I think I will name him Stephen. Water change day. Will take some pics with my DSLR later. Wow @mr_meen, that's looking real good there!!! Love how the red plants are looking. So this is a low tech planted aquarium, right?
Hey all Thanks guys. It's been quite a journey hey and I won't lie a lot of work. I am lucky that I work from home so I give the tank a lot of attention. I think I have been quite lucky so far that all has gone pretty smoothly. Water has remained perfect. (touch wood). @Clare. It is low tech to the point that I am not injecting CO2, which I may or may not do. Here is my setup so far: Tank: 140 liter (30g) Boyu. Tetratec 600 canister hooked up to the tank and a reservoir for easier water changes. Sun Sun micro skimmer which I run permanently. Lighting 3 x 24 Watt T5's set to 6 hours a day. (Reduced this recently from 10 hours a day) I have a switch to reduce the lighting by 24 Watts if need be as well. Substrate ADA Amazonia. Some white silica sand in between. Maintenance Skimmer cleaned each day. Vacuuming 1 x a week. Clean glass 1 x a week. 50% water change 1 x a week. Trimming and replanting 1 x a week. Water test once once a week. Dosing Flourish 2 x a week Excel every day at 1.5x recommended. Will start Scape Complete on Monday at recommended amounts. Flora I planted heavily from the start. Starting with fast growers then onto some slower growers. This was was a recommendation I saw all over the Web. Hydrocotlye Tripartita Micranthemum Umbrosum Rotala Rundofoilia Green Cabomba Carolina Ludwigia Brevipes Java Fern, Microsorum pteropus Java Fern var Windelov Ludwigia Rubin Ludwigia Repens Rubin Ludwigia Glandulosa Mermaid Weed Bacopa Caroliniana Hemianthus callitrichoides ''Cuba'' l Dwarf hairgrass Alternanthera Reineckii Rosaefolia Fauna 10 x black neon tetras 3 Ottocinclus 3 cherry shrimp 1 Rainbow shark (good cleaner except he can be a bit rough on the plants) 1 stowaway guppy named Stephen Fry That's pretty much it. Cheers M. Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk
Hi All. My weekly update. All seems well. Only my Dwarf baby tears who are struggling a bit. My Rainbow Shark is a bit rough on them while foraging. I begin the next phase of this tank soon. Here is a hint. Cheers M. Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk
